The Transform the Future Fund supports HPRP’s important work in the areas of public policy reform and systemic change. The Fund Includes:
- The Linda Kennedy Fellowship in Advocacy. Established in 2009, this fellowship is named after the late Linda Kennedy, an HPRP attorney who was a relentless advocate for people experiencing homelessness. The Fellowship provides a second- or third-year law student with an internship at HPRP to work on policy and systemic issues that promote an end to homelessness in Baltimore City and in Maryland. Kennedy Fellows are leaders. Former Fellows continue to pursue housing justice at the US Department of Justice, the Baltimore City Council and at HPRP. The Fund will ensure continuation of the Kennedy Fellowship Program.
- Compensation for People with Lived Experiences. HPRP believes in the power of people to determine their own solutions to systemic problems affecting their lives. Persons with lived experience are actively engaged in legislative efforts to end housing discrimination, youth homelessness and to decriminalize homelessness. The Fund will support stipends to compensate persons with lived experience for their leadership.
- Housing Justice Advocacy. Every year, the HPRP team leads and supports important state and local legislation toward housing justice. Over the years, HPRP staff have co-led landmark policy initiatives such as the HOME Act, the Ending Youth Homelessness Act, legislation to reform Maryland’s expungement and public benefit programs, and many other laws to end the injustice of homelessness.
